Getting around Costa Rica, whether you’re visiting or living in the country, can be tricky when you don’t know the best way to go about it. Public transportation leaves much to be desired and taxis are scarce, which means that you may find yourself walking long distances or trying to convince a random stranger to give you a ride at times. The next time you need transportation in Costa Rica, use these tips on how to get a taxi in Costa Rica to get where you’re going quickly and safely!

Finding reliable taxis in general

If you’re new to Costa Rica and need to find a taxi, the best way is by using an app on your phone. You can see all of the available drivers near you and their prices before deciding which one would be the best for you. It’s also very easy if you just want to take a taxi from the airport; just go outside and when one arrives, tap on it with your finger as they do here. The driver will lower his window so you can tell him where you want to go, he’ll start his meter running, and off you go!

Finding Reliable Taxis at the Airport

Arriving at the airport? Here’s how to avoid being stranded: -Look for white taxis with a yellow triangle on the side. These are the only taxis allowed at the airport and they’re really easy to spot. Many of these taxi drivers speak English so feel free to ask them about rates or destinations before getting into their car, then decide if you want them or not. This will help avoid confusion later on when you’re trying to tell them where you need to go.

Getting Around Costa Rica

The best way to get around Costa Rica by private car. This will give you the opportunity for flexibility, since you can stop when and where you want, and you will have the choice of how fast or slow you want to go. But what if there are no taxis available?

-If you’re at an airport, hotel, or gas station, just look for the men in blue suits with TAXI written on them. They will take your request and flag down a taxi nearby.

-You can also call ahead using our 24-hour dispatch service so they’ll be waiting at your destination when you arrive.
